Jess Guim

Jess Guim is an Information Technology person. He is currently residing in New York City.  His experience with the Internet and the world wide web started since 1994. His curiosity on its power as far as business is concerned lead him to write a small guidebook about direct email selling, which he patterned from those Bombay merchants who come door-to-door of houses in the Philippines to sell their products. The marketing idea was about direct email selling.  But the spread of the idea was abused by those who learned about it, until it was banned and it was coined as a “spam.”

Direct email selling is still the best marketing strategy today, but with proper rules to follow, like direct email selling with permission to recipients of email sales pitch.  With his bad experience, however, from selling that book which irritated Internet service providers, Jess focused instead in computer and networking jobs. From 1995 to present, he was involved with multi-million information technology projects of large corporations like:

1. Y2K rollout of Merck-Medco, Bear-Stearns, Wall Street Access
2. IBM wireless network integration project at New York City Board of Education classrooms
3. Hardware rollout project at JP Morgan Chase
4. Apple server upgrade and migration at Oxford University Press
5. Desktop and Network Support at Halcrow Yolles, and more!

Jess had been providing technical and computer engineering support to different companies in US since 1995.  That’s 14 years of IT experience today.

It could be recalled, however, that Jess was actually a successful entrepreneur in the Philippines.  He started a tansportation business in 1989 with only PhP500.00 Philippine peso to buy a n old sidecar which he attached to his old motorcycle, and drove it himself to earn an extra income.  After saving his extra income, he opened another small sari-sari store, which multiplied further his income. More  small business had been opened later, until everything grew into a million peso business in 1992. That success, however, was stopped in an instant when he was petitioned by his wife to stay in New York City with his children. Until then, he just played on a safe side by employing as contractor or consultant to consulting companies here in US.

His combined experiences in entrepreneural business, computers, Internet, and the world wide web are strong assets in building this web site that will focus on how the overseas Filipinos could start other sources of income while working as overseas workers.
